Apple Pecan Chicken Salad
This apple pecan chicken salad is perfect on sandwiches, crackers, lettuce cups and more! A delicious and protein packed meal or snack.

I love a good ultimate chicken salad, but was craving something a little more festive. The sweet apples and crunchy roasted pecans makes this feel a little more fancy to me. And it’s so good.
Here’s everything you’ll need and how to make it.
What You’ll Need
Equipment
- Large mixing bowl: Love this huge wooden one. Oversized for this recipe but I use it for tons of other things.
- Cutting board
- Cutting knives
Ingredients
- Chicken: To make this super easy, I use pre-cooked shredded chicken, or rotisserie chicken.
- Celery
- Honey crisp apple: Or apple of choice.
- Roasted pecans
- Green onion
- Light mayo
- Non-fat plain greek yogurt: This adds some protein and stretches the sauce a bit further.
- Dijon mustard
- Honey
- Apple cider vinegar
- Salt & pepper
How To Make It
- Prep the veggies: Wash and dry the celery, apple and green onions.
- Chop it all up: Chop or shred the cooked chicken. Finely chop the celery, apple, and thinly slice the green onion. Roughly chop the roasted pecans.
- Make the dressing: Whisk together the mayo, yogurt, mustard, honey, apple cider vinegar, salt and pepper in a small bowl or glass measuring cup.
- Stir it all up: In a large mixing bowl, add everything together and stir until combined. Season with any more salt and pepper to taste.

Tips
- Texture: Make the celery and apple chunks as big or small as you want. I love very finely chopped celery and apple to get a little in every bite.
- Add herbs: Adding dill, chives, parsley or other herbs will give this salad a flavor boost.
- Chill: I love this salad most cold, after it’s sat in the fridge for a least a couple hours.
To Make Your Own Roasted Pecans
Wanna make your own roasted pecans instead of buying them already roasted? Just add raw pecans to a parchment lined baking sheet, toss with a small drizzle of olive oil, big pinch of sea salt and bake them at 350 F for 9-12 min (until toasted and smelling delicious). You could also use the stove to toast them for about 3-5 minutes, until toasted and fragrant.
To Serve
Enjoy this chicken salad in a wrap, croissant or sandwich for a more filling meal, or as a snack with some crackers or lettuce cups. I bet this would also be delicious on some slider buns.
To Store
Store extra apple pecan chicken salad in an airtight container in the fridge up to 4 days.

First, I want to say that I love your website. It’s truly perfection, from color choices to layout, from ease of use to quality of the recipes/instructions. Your attention to detail is abundantly clear! Thank you, I am certain that I just found a resource I will come back to time and again.
Now, on to a review of this recipe!
I just finished my Sunday meal prep, making this and your potato taco bowls. I know I should have let the chicken salad sit for a while but I could not resist it! And, even without it marinating OMG it is so delicious! 10/10. Although not a thing needs to change, I could see lots of “swap options”, like adding raisins or grapes, bacon, even beans! I’m looking forward to a week of great tasting, healthy food! (I also am prepping your pesto pasta with Mediterranean grilled chicken on Wednesday, stay tuned!!!) THANK YOU!
Hi Beth,
Thanks so much for this kind review! Glad my site has been easy to use and you have been enjoying the recipes. The chicken salad is totally customizable, you can use whatever you’ve got on hand! Excited for you to try the pesto pasta with chicken! ♡
This is absolutely delicious. I was asked to make chicken salad for a bridal shower, so I did a test run of this recipe today and my husband and I and even my 8 year old have enjoyed it with some crackers. Wonderful recipe, can’t wait to share at the shower!
Hi Sierra,
Love this! Hope the bridal shower turns out beautiful! ♡
This was easy and delicious! Adding to my rotation
Hi Katie,
Glad you loved this one!
I love your website and the chicken salad recipe, which was delicious with rice cakes. I slow-cooked my chicken breast with broth and seasoning, and the taste was amazing!
Hi Theresa,
Thanks so much! The slow cooker chicken sounds delicious for this one. ♡
Very rarely do I find a recipe that I keep going back to time and time again, and this is one of them. I make it so often that I ended up buying a giant bag of pecans from Costco so I always have some on hand for this salad. It’s great on its own, with some toast, and I’m sure it would be incredible in a lettuce wrap too. I never leave recipe reviews but this is a 10/10. No notes!!
Hi Laura,
Thrilled to hear this! I’m so glad it’s a staple for you, thanks for sharing. ♡
