With the weather heating up (and I mean REALLY heating up here in AZ), I have been craving all the cold snacks and drinks. This is the newest smoothie in my rotation and it’s so good you guys.

What You’ll Need

Equipment
Ingredients
  • Frozen wild blueberries: I buy them already frozen in a big bag like this.
  • Frozen banana: I cut my riper bananas in 1/2 and store in the freezer for smoothies like this. Youโ€™ll only need 1/2 of a small banana (frozen).
  • Ground flaxseed: Adds some healthy fats and a mild nutty flavor. Look for it in the baking aisle, around the flour.
  • Unsweetened almond milk: Or cashew.
  • Vanilla protein powder: I use the Optimum Nutrition vanilla ice cream protein powder. Make sure to use a powder you know and love as it changes the taste.

How To Make It

  1. Add all ingredients to a high speed blender and blend until smooth. Enjoy immediately!

Tips

  • Add ice: If you want an extra thick smoothie, add a few ice cubes. I use the little plunger tool to help it blend when I do this.
  • Use ripe bananas: The more ripe the banana, the sweeter the smoothie will be.
  • Extra protein: If you want even more protein, sub regular milk or fat free milk for the almond milk.

To Make Dairy Free

Just switch out the whey protein powder with plant based or vegan. This will change the amount of protein and the texture of the smoothie, as plant-based protein powders are a bit heavier/more grainy than whey. Just use one you know and love!
