Chocolate Protein Balls (No Bake)

These chocolate protein balls are made in just 10 minutes with simple ingredients for the perfect pre-workout snack or sweet treat.

What You’ll Need

  • Oats: I use quick oats to create a softer texture.
  • Chocolate protein powder: I’m using the 1UP Nutrition chocolate milkshake protein powder (code “Jaycee” for 20% off).
  • Dutch cocoa powder: Dutch-process cocoa is darker and has a less acidic flavor than regular unsweetened cocoa. Gives these a smooth and rich chocolatey flavor.
  • Salt
  • Peanut butter
  • Honey
  • Unsweetened almond milk
  • Mini chocolate chips: I use semi-sweet.

How To Make Them

  1. Mix the dry ingredients: In a small bowl or container, whisk together the oats, protein powder, cocoa powder, and just a pinch of salt. Stir in the mini chocolate chips.
  2. Add the wet ingredients: Add the peanut butter, honey and almond milk. Begin stirring, slowly incorporating everything together. It will seem too dry at first, but just trust the process. Keep mixing until combined and you have a dough formed.
  3. Form into balls: Roll into 12 balls and place onto a plate or tray. Try to keep them from touching each other.
  4. Chill: Toss in the freezer to chill for about an hour. Enjoy as a pre-workout snack or sweet treat!

Tips

  • Don’t add too much milk: The mixture might seem too dry when mixing, but just keep going – it will eventually form a dough. If you add more liquid, the dough will turn out way too sticky and hard to eat (if using whey protein powder).
  • Don’t stack: Try not to stack these, as they will stick together. Once they’ve chilled, you can stack them with a piece of parchment between them to store if needed.

Protein Powder

  • I’m using the 1UP Nutrition chocolate milkshake protein powder (code “Jaycee” for 20% off).
  • If you’re using a whey/casein blend or a plant based powder, you may or may not need to adjust the amount of almond milk you add. When in doubt, I always start with less then add more.

To Store

Store in an airtight container in the fridge or freezer (if you need to stack them, place some parchment between them). They’ll last up to 3 months in the freezer, or up to 2 weeks in the fridge.

Instructions

  • In a small bowl or container, whisk together the peanut butter, honey, and milk until smooth.
  • Add the oats, protein powder, cocoa powder, chocolate chips, and salt. Stir until a thick dough forms. It might seem too dry at first but just keep mixing, only adding more milk if needed.
  • Roll into 12 equal balls and place on a parchment lined plate or tray (don't stack). Chill in the freezer for at least an hour and enjoy!

Notes

  • Careful not to add too much milk – it can make these really sticky and hard to work with, especially when using whey protein powder. Start with less and add more if you need!

I can’t keep these long enough in my house to last 1 day! Between my husband and my 4 year old they don’t last long because they LOVE them!
