Easy Everyday Chocolate Protein Smoothie

Everyone needs an easy, everyday chocolate protein smoothie in their lives. Something you can come back to again and again and it never lets you down. Trust me, this will be your new go-to.

This smoothie is awesome as a post-workout recovery drink, a light morning snack while you work on waking up, or just maybe need something to help you get that extra protein in. It’s just so reliable. It’s like that friend that’s always there when you need ’em.

There’s nothing fancy when it comes to this protein smoothie. The basics, guys, the basics. Fruit, protein powder, milk, and a little ice. Just a touch of cocoa powder and powdered peanut butter and you’re all set. So light, so tasty, goes down easy, sits well. What more could you need?

Ingredients

  • 1/2 banana: I like to keep my bananas in the freezer so it makes my smoothie super thick and chilly. But don’t worry if you don’t have any frozen on hand, fresh bananas work just fine. You might just need to add a little extra ice. Also keep in mind that the riper your banana, the sweeter your smoothie will be.
  • Chocolate protein powder: Make sure to choose a protein powder you know and love! I’m using the 1UP Nutrition chocolate milkshake protein powder (code “Jaycee” for 20% off).
  • Unsweetened cocoa powder: Not only does this intensify the chocolate flavor, but it contains antioxidants that are great for your health. Read more about cocoa powder health benefits here.
  • Powdered peanut butter: This doesn’t make it taste super peanut-buttery in my opinion. It just adds some thickness and brings out the best in the chocolate. The powdered keeps this lower fat. If you like a more dense smoothie and more peanut butter flavor, use regular peanut butter.
  • Unsweetened almond milk: Any unsweetened nut milk will work here. I also really love cashew milk.
  • Ice: Depending on how thick you like your smoothies will depend on how much ice you use. I add 4 frozen cubes from a regular ice tray.

How To Make It

  • Grab a blender. I use my Vitamix, which I love, but have friends who love Ninja blenders and love those.
  • Add all your ingredients into the blender and blend everything for about 30-60 seconds, until everything is smooth.
  • That’s it! Pour it into a mason jar or large cup and enjoy right away!

Dairy Free

You can easily make this dairy free with a plant-based protein (I love the vegan chocolate protein from 1UP Nutrition which has surprisingly good macros for a vegan powder) – use code “Jaycee” for 20% off.
