If you have a big sweet tooth, this one’s for you. Enjoy as a breakfast, post-workout, or late night treat! Here’s everything you’ll need and how to make it.
What You’ll Need
Equipment
Ingredients
- Banana
- Unsweetened almond milk: Or milk of choice.
- Chocolate protein powder: I’m using the 1UP Nutrition chocolate milkshake protein powder (code “Jaycee” for 20% off).
- Dutch cocoa powder: Dutch-process cocoa is darker and has a less acidic flavor than regular unsweetened cocoa. Gives these a smooth and rich chocolatey flavor.
- Peanut butter
- Sugar free caramel syrup: I use this Torani one.
- Dates
- Ice
How To Make It
- Add all ingredients to a high speed blender and blend until smooth. Enjoy immediately!
Tips
- Add chocolate syrup to your cup: Drizzle the inside of your cup before pouring your smoothie.
- Extra protein: If you want even more protein, sub regular milk or fat free milk for the almond milk.
- Dairy free: Switch out the whey protein powder with plant based or vegan. This will change the amount of protein and the texture, as plant-based powders are a bit heavier/more grainy than whey. Just use one you know and love!

Weird question maybe and if it’s on another recipe, I’m sorry, but would you have a good swap idea for the banana in smoothies? Of ALL the stupid allergies to have, especially as they as so often used in recipes like this, I have to have this one. Grrrrr. I swear, having celiac is easier sometimes that this oddball tossed into my idiotic body’s mix. Who is allergic to bananas!?! And as this looks amazing, help?
Hi Jenna,
You could try some greek yogurt, or even avocado! Both would add that creaminess that’ll be missing without the banana. You might just need to add some extra sweetener and ice!
