Vanilla Chai Protein Smoothie
This vanilla chai protein smoothie is so tasty and filling, made with banana, vanilla and warm spices. Whether you’re fueling a workout or the busy day ahead, this one’s made in 5 minutes and ready to go when you are.

I’ve been on my protein smoothie kick, as I usually am, and wanted to spice things up. I love anything chai-flavored and this has the perfect hint of warm spice but still so refreshing! Here’s everything you’ll need and how to make it.
What You’ll Need
Equipment
Ingredients
- Frozen banana
- Medjool dates
- Unsweetened cashew milk: Or milk of choice.
- Vanilla: I use imitation vanilla flavor
- Vanilla protein powder: See protein powder recs below.
- Chai spices: Cinnamon, ginger, allspice, cardamom.
- Ice: 4-6 large cubes (I have an ice tray like this). Adjust for desired consistency.

How To Make It
- Add all ingredients to a high speed blender and blend until smooth. Enjoy immediately!
To Make Dairy Free
Just switch out the whey protein powder with plant based or vegan. This will change the amount of protein and the texture of the smoothie, as plant-based protein powders are a bit heavier/more grainy than whey. Just use one you know and love!
Protein Powder Recs
- Optimum Nutrition vanilla ice cream: My go-to more affordable option.
- iHeartmacros vanilla cream: (use code “Pantry” for 10% off).
- Clean Simple Eats vanilla: More expensive, but really good.
Tips
- Soak dates: Soak dates in hot water 5-10 min before adding to soften to help blend better.
- Cute cups: My favorite for serving right now are these vintage style glass cups from Amazon. So cute and the perfect size!

One of the best protein shakes I’ve ever made. I didn’t have / didn’t want to use banana, so I swapped it out with 15 grams of roasted soybeans and 5 grams of toasted sesame seeds. I did not have any dates, but the protein powder I used was Truvani’s Vanilla Chai, sweetened with monk fruit, so I found that this was perfectly sweet without the addition of a date. Instead of cashew milk, I just added whole milk a fourth of a cup at a time along with ice and coconut water as needed until it reached the desired consistency. Then I poured it into a bowl and topped it with some black sesame seeds for a nice, contrasting visual effect. Very tasty. I would definitely make this again!
Hey Lisa,
Glad you were able to use what you had on hand! Thanks for sharing and happy to hear you enjoyed. ♡
This sounds amazing! I’m not big on dates and usually only have regular milk, so I’ll probably try your options! The whole thing sounds great but I like the idea of the protein powder sweetened with monk fruit! I like monk fruit sweetners as they don’t spike my blood sugar.
It sounds really good! I’m going to try it out, I have a question about the recipe. Shouldn’t it have Chai seed in it since it’s Chai smoothie?
I just use some chai spices since I always have those on hand and that’s easiest for me! You could totally add some if you’d like. ♡
